The Full 2016 OSUSC Points System Breakdown
Feature Guest: OPTIMA Jim McIlvaine
Now that the 2016 season has finally started, this first podcast show of the season was dedicated to a full breakdown of the 2016 Points System. Specifically, we focused on a discussion of the changes for 2016 vs those of last year, and how they would affect competitors. We asked OPTIMA Jim on to help discuss the changes in depth as his mathematical modeling of the points programs was used heavily in the decision making process.
Topics hit include:
–Maximum points possible per event is now 500 (100 points, 5 segment each)
–Finishing position in points assignment is based upon entire field first, then segmented by class.
–Impact of cascading points down to 75 positions
–No more “Double Points” events
–Design and Engineering section now equally weighted with competitive segments
–How season points are decided (and class winners are awarded)
–How OUSCI Invites are determined
Jim also has written a terrific post on the POWER SOURCE blog that gives specific examples of the points changes as well. We encourage you to give it a read!
Thanks much – and talk to you in the next episode!
-Rob & Jimi
p.s. Special thanks to Toby Thompson for sending in his points questions!
